I just had one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences ever at the Black Cat. This was not because of the food, which I and my date managed to get very little of, but due to singularly poor service. Our waitress was very distracted, inattentive, and hard to make contact with. I waited over 15 minutes to get the glass of wine I ordered, over half an hour to get our appetizer, and we left over an hour after we ordered without having been served our entrees, grilled steaks which should not have taken more than 8-10 minutes to prepare. Even then, we had to seek out our waitress at the bar, where she was visiting with friends in order to pay her for what we did get (the steamer clams were excellent, but nothing is worth that kind of wait). Apparently many others are willing to accept this treatment, but I shan't repeat it!!!

The Black Cat is a very cool place to go and drink, and their food is better than average. THe wait staff has gotten progressively worse over the years though. If you just want a place with great ambience and good drinks, it's well worth it....just don't expect very good service.

I enjoyed the ambience and the taste of the food, but became sick later that evening. It seemed food related as the illness was over by morning. Had a caesar salad and a creamy chicken dish.
